Trauma refers to physical injuries caused by external forces, including road traffic collisions, falls, assaults and sporting accidents. In neurosurgery, trauma commonly involves injuries to the brain, skull, spine and spinal cord. These may include traumatic brain injury, intracranial haemorrhage, skull fractures and spinal instability. Assessment typically involves neurological examination, CT or MRI imaging and emergency monitoring. Treatment may require surgical intervention, intensive care and rehabilitation. Independent Trauma Expert Witnesses can provide specialist opinions on injury assessment, emergency management, treatment delays, surgical care, causation, complications and long-term prognosis in Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury cases.
