Placenta Praevia and Low-Lying Placenta are conditions in which the placenta lies close to or covers the cervix during pregnancy. They can increase the risk of vaginal bleeding, particularly in the later stages of pregnancy and during childbirth. Diagnosis and monitoring typically involve ultrasound examinations, with management depending on placental position, bleeding episodes and gestational age. Planned caesarean delivery may be necessary, particularly when the placenta covers the cervix. Independent Placenta Praevia and Low-Lying Placenta Expert Witnesses can provide specialist clinical opinions on ultrasound interpretation, antenatal monitoring, haemorrhage management, delivery planning, emergency intervention and standards of care in Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury cases.
