Paediatric Deafness refers to partial or complete hearing loss in infants, children and adolescents. It may be congenital or acquired through genetic conditions, infections, injury or other medical causes. Early identification through newborn hearing screening, audiological assessment and appropriate investigations is important for supporting speech, language and communication development. Management may include hearing aids, cochlear implants and specialist educational support. Independent Paediatric Deafness Expert Witnesses can provide opinions on delayed diagnosis, hearing assessments, treatment decisions, communication development, causation, prognosis and standards of care in Clinical Negligence cases.
