Lumbar Puncture is a procedure used to collect cerebrospinal fluid from the lower spinal canal for diagnostic testing or, occasionally, to administer treatment. It may help investigate meningitis, inflammatory neurological conditions and other disorders affecting the central nervous system. Potential complications include post-dural puncture headache, bleeding, infection and nerve irritation. Independent Lumbar Puncture Expert Witnesses can provide specialist opinions on clinical indications, informed consent, procedural technique, interpretation of results, complications, causation and standards of care in Clinical Negligence cases.
