Aneuploidy Screening involves prenatal tests used to assess the likelihood of chromosomal abnormalities, including Down's syndrome (trisomy 21), Edwards' syndrome (trisomy 18) and Patau's syndrome (trisomy 13). Screening methods include the combined first-trimester test, quadruple test and non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT). These tests estimate risk rather than provide a definitive diagnosis, with higher-chance results potentially requiring diagnostic testing. Independent Aneuploidy Screening Expert Witnesses can provide specialist clinical opinions on test selection, risk calculation, interpretation of results, genetic counselling, informed consent, referral decisions and standards of care in Clinical Negligence cases.
