Introduction

Mr Keshav Mathur is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at Alexandra Hospital, Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, and an expert witness. His principal areas of clinical expertise are knee, shoulder and elbow surgery, with particular interests in joint replacement, soft tissue reconstruction, arthroscopic surgery and sports-related injuries.

His practice encompasses the assessment and surgical management of a broad range of orthopaedic injuries and degenerative conditions affecting the upper and lower limbs. His specialist interests include ACL injuries and reconstruction, meniscal injuries, knee and shoulder arthritis, rotator cuff injuries, shoulder instability, fractures, tendon injuries and osteoarthritis. He also undertakes knee and shoulder replacement surgery, including partial knee replacement and revision procedures.

Mr Mathur completed specialist orthopaedic training on the Birmingham Orthopaedic Programme followed by fellowship training in knee and shoulder surgery, with a focus on joint replacement and keyhole surgery. His authority within trauma and orthopaedics is further reflected in his role as a Senior Examiner with the Intercollegiate Board for Trauma and Orthopaedics, alongside his teaching of GPs on sports injuries, arthroscopic surgery and the management of articular cartilage injuries.

Medico Legal Experience Summary

Mr Keshav Mathur has undertaken medico-legal work since 2026, providing expert opinion in clinical negligence and personal injury claims on behalf of claimants. His medico-legal practice includes screening and advisory work and the preparation of opinions addressing breach of duty, causation, and condition and prognosis.

His instructions principally concern trauma and orthopaedic matters, particularly conditions and injuries affecting the knee, shoulder and elbow. Relevant areas include fractures, sports injuries, ACL and meniscal injuries, rotator cuff injuries, joint instability, osteoarthritis and complications relating to joint replacement or revision surgery. His specialist surgical experience enables him to consider the nature and extent of orthopaedic injury, the appropriateness of treatment provided, the relationship between alleged failings and subsequent outcomes, and the likely future course of a claimant’s condition.

Clinical Interests

Mr Mathur’s clinical practice focuses on the assessment and treatment of traumatic, degenerative and sports-related conditions affecting the knee, shoulder and elbow. He manages patients with ligament and soft tissue injuries, including ACL and meniscal injuries, rotator cuff pathology, shoulder instability and tendon injuries, alongside fractures and other traumatic presentations.

A significant area of his practice involves joint disease, particularly osteoarthritis affecting the knee and shoulder. His surgical work includes arthroscopic procedures, soft tissue reconstruction and joint replacement, including partial and total knee replacement and shoulder replacement. He also has expertise in revision surgery where further intervention is required following previous orthopaedic treatment.

Sports injuries form a particular clinical interest, with his practice encompassing the management of injuries affecting joint stability, cartilage, ligaments and tendons. His clinical expertise therefore spans both acute orthopaedic injury and longer-term joint conditions requiring reconstructive or replacement surgery.
