Intro
Mr Christopher Lamb is an expert witness and Consultant Vascular and Major Trauma Surgeon at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, where he has held a consultant post since 2016. He specialises in vascular surgery, major trauma surgery, open and endovascular procedures, complex aortic surgery and paediatric vascular surgery, with expertise in the surgical management of traumatic injuries involving the abdomen and thorax, alongside aneurysm disease, peripheral arterial disease and limb-threatening ischaemia.
His clinical practice covers the full spectrum of vascular surgery, including the management of aortic, carotid, peripheral arterial and venous disease, alongside complex emergency and elective vascular procedures. He has extensive experience treating critically injured patients through his work at the East Midlands Major Trauma Centre in Nottingham, one of the busiest major trauma centres in the UK, and through 20 years’ service as a military trauma surgeon in the Royal Air Force.
Within Nottingham’s vascular department, Mr Lamb is clinical lead for complex aortic surgery and paediatric vascular surgery. His practice is particularly focused on high-risk vascular disease, the surgical management of traumatic abdominal and thoracic injuries, aneurysm repair, acute and chronic limb ischaemia, diabetic foot disease, carotid disease and vascular complications affecting adults and children.
Medico Legal Experience Summary
Mr Christopher Lamb has been undertaking medico legal work since 2023 and accepts instructions in clinical negligence and personal injury matters. He has experience acting for both claimants and defendants, providing expert opinion on screening, breach of duty, causation, condition and prognosis.
His medico legal practice is focused on vascular surgery and major trauma, particularly cases involving traumatic injuries to the abdomen, chest and limbs, alongside aortic and aneurysm surgery, peripheral vascular disease, acute and chronic limb ischaemia, carotid disease, venous disease, diabetic foot disease, amputations and complications following open or endovascular procedures. He is also able to accept instructions involving paediatric vascular surgery and the vascular consequences of traumatic injury.
Mr Lamb’s reports assist solicitors in understanding issues of surgical management, vascular injury, treatment pathways, prognosis and the relationship between injury, disease progression and clinical outcome.
Clinical Interests
Mr Lamb’s clinical interests centre on the assessment and management of complex vascular disease, particularly where arterial pathology affects limb viability, stroke risk or major organ perfusion. Much of his practice involves patients with peripheral arterial disease, acute and chronic limb ischaemia, diabetic foot complications, arterial ulcers, claudication and vascular problems that may require bypass, endovascular intervention, amputation or longer-term surveillance.
He also has a strong interest in aortic and aneurysm disease, including abdominal aortic aneurysm, ruptured aneurysm and endovascular aneurysm repair. His work includes the investigation, operative planning and postoperative management of patients undergoing complex vascular procedures.
Alongside this, Mr Lamb regularly manages patients with major traumatic injuries involving the abdomen, chest and limbs. While his primary specialty is vascular surgery, he also has extensive experience in the general surgical management of trauma, including vascular injuries, femoral artery injury and the vascular consequences of severe soft tissue or orthopaedic injury. His clinical interests also extend to carotid disease, venous disease, deep vein thrombosis, varicose veins and mesenteric ischaemia.
Research, Teaching & Publications Summary
Mr Lamb contributes to national and international trauma surgery training as a faculty member and has published in the fields of vascular and trauma surgery. His academic and teaching activity is focused on improving outcomes in elective and emergency vascular care, particularly in complex vascular and trauma practice
