Introduction

Dr Robert Block has been a Consultant Paediatrician at Tameside General Hospital, Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust since 2018 and practises as an expert witness. His principal areas of clinical expertise include general paediatrics, neonatal medicine, paediatric respiratory medicine, allergy, child safeguarding, developmental paediatrics and paediatric emergency medicine, with particular interests in asthma, allergic disease and neonatal follow-up.

Dr Block provides comprehensive care for infants, children and young people across the full spectrum of general paediatric conditions. As the clinical lead for asthma in children and young people, he diagnoses and manages a wide range of atopic disorders, including asthma, food allergy, eczema, hay fever and drug allergy, and performs specialist allergy investigations such as skin prick testing, serum specific IgE testing, and oral food and antibiotic challenges. His practice also includes neonatal follow-up, monitoring the growth, development and health of premature infants after discharge, alongside the investigation and management of antenatally identified renal abnormalities.

In addition to his broad paediatric practice, Dr Block has extensive experience in child safeguarding and the assessment of vulnerable children, as well as expertise in common childhood conditions including constipation and enuresis. His clinical leadership in asthma services, allergy management and neonatal care, combined with his multidisciplinary approach to safeguarding and general paediatrics, enables him to provide balanced, evidence-based opinions founded on a broad and active consultant practice.

Medico Legal Experience Summary

Dr Robert Block has undertaken medico-legal work since 2022, accepting instructions in clinical negligence and family matters involving infants, children and young people. His practice is informed by extensive experience in general paediatrics, neonatal medicine, child safeguarding, paediatric respiratory medicine and allergy, enabling him to provide independent expert opinion across a broad range of paediatric cases. He is particularly well placed to advise on matters involving child protection, developmental concerns, neonatal care, asthma and allergic disease, as well as wider general paediatric conditions. Dr Block has experience attending Family Court, further strengthening his understanding of the legal process in cases involving children. His reports are founded on active consultant practice and are designed to provide clear, balanced and clinically robust opinions to assist instructing solicitors.

Clinical Interests

Dr Block's clinical practice centres on the assessment, diagnosis and management of infants, children and young people presenting with a broad range of acute and chronic paediatric conditions. A significant proportion of his work focuses on respiratory and allergic disease, where he manages children with asthma, food allergy, eczema, hay fever and drug allergy through dedicated clinics. His practice includes specialist allergy investigations, including skin prick testing, serum specific IgE testing, and supervised oral food and antibiotic challenges to establish accurate diagnoses and guide long-term management.

Alongside his allergy practice, Dr Block provides comprehensive general paediatric care, investigating and treating common and complex childhood illnesses across both outpatient and inpatient settings. He has particular expertise in developmental paediatrics and the ongoing care of premature infants through neonatal follow-up clinics, monitoring growth, neurodevelopment and general health after discharge from neonatal services. His clinical interests also extend to the assessment and management of childhood constipation, enuresis and antenatally detected renal abnormalities, including the development and implementation of investigation and management pathways. Child safeguarding remains an integral part of his day-to-day practice, requiring close multidisciplinary working to assess and support vulnerable children and their families.
