Introduction

Dr Lee Feddy is a Consultant in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia, Critical Care Medicine and ECMO, and an expert witness at Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where he has held his consultant post since 2013. His principal areas of expertise include cardiothoracic anaesthesia, intensive care medicine, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), perioperative care for major cardiac and thoracic surgery, and the management of acute respiratory and cardiac failure requiring advanced organ support.

Dr Feddy's clinical practice is centred on the care of critically ill adult patients undergoing complex cardiothoracic procedures and those requiring specialist intensive care. He provides anaesthetic care across the full range of surgical operations, with particular expertise in cardiac bypass and valve surgery, cancer surgery and the perioperative management of high-risk patients. His work includes the assessment and optimisation of patients before surgery, the delivery of advanced anaesthesia during complex procedures, and the management of post-operative complications within critical care.

He also has extensive experience in ECMO and advanced organ support for patients with severe respiratory and cardiac failure, including those requiring intensive care following COVID-19. Alongside his clinical responsibilities, Dr Feddy serves as Clinical Audit Lead for Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Critical Care, reflecting his commitment to maintaining high standards of clinical governance and patient care. His breadth of expertise across anaesthesia, intensive care and ECMO enables him to manage some of the most complex and critically unwell adult patients within a specialist cardiothoracic setting.

Clinical Interests

Dr Feddy's current clinical practice is centred on the perioperative care of adults undergoing major cardiothoracic surgery and the management of critically ill patients requiring advanced organ support. He is extensively involved in the assessment, optimisation and anaesthetic management of patients undergoing complex cardiac and thoracic procedures, as well as the delivery of intensive care for those with severe respiratory or cardiac failure. His practice includes the use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) for patients with life-threatening cardiopulmonary compromise, including those requiring prolonged critical care support.

A significant part of his day-to-day work involves managing patients before, during and after major surgery, providing specialist anaesthetic care, haemodynamic management and post-operative critical care. He regularly assesses patients with complex co-morbidities, oversees advanced organ support and resuscitation, and manages complications arising from surgery and critical illness. His expertise also extends to perioperative risk stratification, sedation, and the treatment of acute respiratory and cardiac failure, ensuring patients receive comprehensive care throughout their surgical and intensive care journey. Through his role as Clinical Audit Lead for Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Critical Care, he also contributes to the continual improvement of clinical standards and patient outcomes within this highly specialised field.
